What is an RFID tag? The RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification)is an identification tag. It's a technology for the identification of objects, animals or people that allows to link the physical world and the digital one (the internet of things).The electromagnetic wave are used to send the information associated to the tag's microchip. The information, also complex ones, can be read also at distance, depending on the RFID reader power. This technology is often used also to create interactive installation, where an object with an associated RFID let some "events" happen (load a video, play a sound,..).

Program
An intense day workshop with a theory part in the morning about RFID tag, its possible applications in design field presented through some case studies.In the afternoon will follow a practical part with some exercise associating multimedia content and physical tags. At the end the creation of a simple project will enable paricipants to put into practice what they learnt during the day. Any particular backgroung is necessary.

Professor Massimo Banzi
Massimo Banzi teaches Physical Computing at Interaction Design Institue Ivrea. He has worked on interaction design projects for customers of the caliber of Prada, Artemide and Adidas.  He is the founder of the Arduino project. Before working in Ivrea he was a software developer for many years. He is one of the pioneers of the commercial development of the world wide web in Italy, having been Italy’s first online webmaster. He has spent 4 years in London working at technological architectures for customers such as Labour Party BT, MCI WorldCom, SmithKlineBeecham, Storagetek, BSkyB and boo.com. He has also been Senior Technical architect for Sapient and CTO of the incubator for Seat Pagine Gialle/Matrix. Massimo has also taught at the MA in E - Business at Bergamo University. Massimo Banzi is an Id - lab partner and technology manager.
