The workshop theme lies at the interface of architecture and game. During the week of the workshop the participants are going to conceive and implement games. These are ment to relate to the place of schokofabrik. With the use of digital and analog tools we re tryin to link different mediums such as light and sound. The approch to the techniques during the projects are going to be supported by tutors with different technical skills. In addition lectures will illuminate the theme form different points of view. For the closure of the workshop we.ll in vite the public to play, disccuss the result (outcomes), and have a party.
Theme
The theme ‘play’ offers various possibilities. Starting in early childhood playing is a way to learn and interpret space; the participants must create a proper universe for the game. We need to play. Playing creates distraction and creative activity simultaneously. For the player it is relaxing and exciting - even nerve-wracking - all at the same time. Play creates an enormous amount of motivation - motivation we should use.
Nearly every game has materials or toys, and most games have play-grounds or play - spaces. During the workshop, the schokofabrik will be take both roles. By connecting the site and the exploration of its properties, the workshop creates a new opportunity to explore the link between architecture and play.
Interactivity between building and visitor is another important aspect the workshop will explore. When the visitor plays with the building, it is also possible for him to become a control element of the building itself.
During the week of the workshop we seek to realize and produce all projects. At the the end of the week 04 August 2006 there will be an opening party to finalize and show the projects in public - and party!
