Competition Rules for the “International City-People-Light Award 2004”
Organised by Philips Lighting and LUCI
Article 1: Guiding principle.
This award has been created by Philips Lighting and LUCI to reward the towns
or cities that best show the added value that lighting can give to an area’s
cultural and architectural heritage and nocturnal identity (while respecting
environment rules). The lighting must be of a permanent nature and visible to
all citizens free of charge. Non-permanent, festive illuminations cannot be
considered.
Article 2: Participants.
Towns or cities may enter any lighting projects completed during the two
last years prior to entry in the competition.
Article 3: Jury and award
The international jury is chaired by Jean Michel DACLIN, Chairman of LUCI
and its members include a lighting designer, a town planner, a landscape
architect, an elected official, An urban architect, a Philips Lighting
representative, and two LUCI member cities. The jury will base its judgement on
the quality, originality and technical competence of the entry. The decision of
the jury members is final and no correspondence will be entered into. The prize
is the 'City-People-Light Award' trophy and a prize to the value of 5000 euros
(paid by a cheque made
payable to the winning town).
Article 4: Application
All applications must include the following documents:
• a completed entry form
• a description of the illuminated area (site, monument, suburb, street.one
page).
• a technical sheet detailing the lighting installation (one page).
• a sheet outlining the people involved in the conception and implementation
of the project with a short profile (one page).
• a sheet describing the objectives of the creator/designer (one page).
• five night-time views of the area from different angles (slides or A4
photos).
• several daytime views of the area (slides or A4 photos).
All documents must be clearly labelled with the name of the town or city. These
documents will become the property of the competition organisers and must be
free of copyright so that they can be used by the organisers exclusively for
internal and external promotion of the Award for an unlimited period of time.
All entries must be received by the 31st of July 2004.
Article 5: Publication of the results
The results of the competition will be published in professional lighting
magazines, on the Philips City-People-Light Web-site, www.city-light.com,
and on the LUCI Web-site, www.luciassociation.org
Philips and LUCI reserve the right to communicate the results as they see fit.
Article 6: Presentation of the Award
The award will be presented in a special ceremony during the LUCI Annual General
