Eclecticism Today
Part of the Lille conurbation, the town of Lambersart is known for the diversity
and the quality of its many villas. Il has decided to organize an international
contest open to students of Schools of Architecture, the subject of which is the
urban villa, built individually or on a housing estate.

Regulations
The contest is open to any student fully registered in a School of Architecture.
Registration to the contest is to be sent by post to the City Hall of
Lambersart (Concours la VILLA urbaine, Hôtel de Ville, BP19 59831 Lambersart
cedex) or by e-mail ([email protected]),
by December 31, 2002.
Languages accepted : French or English.
Participation is anonymous. Each candidate will choose a code (2 letters and 4
figures) to identify all documents provided. This identification code, together
with the candidate's name and address, will be included in a sealed envelope
bearing the codeexclusively.
Document submitted consist of :
1 - For the detached house
(Esso site Villa : 912 sq.m)
Two panels format max. A0 (84 cm x 118 cm), vertical presentation on light,
rigid support, colour or black and white, comprising :
Plans, sections, facades and free expression (axonometric perspectives as
desired) of Villa to scale of 1/50.
Overall plan to scale of 1/200.
Model of a villa to scale of 1/50 or synthetic images format A3.
CD showing documents submitted, format DWG or DXF, image format TIFF or
JPEG
2 - For the housing estate
(Pasteur site housing estate : 8841 sq.m)
Two panels format max. A0 (84 cm x 118 cm), vertical presentation on light,
rigid support, colour or black and white, comprising :
Plans, sections, facades and free expression (axonometric perspectives as
desired) of one Villa to scale of 1/50.
Overall plan to scale of 1/100.
Model of a villa to scale of 1/50 or model to scale of 1/100 of entire housing
estate or synthetic images format A3.
CD showing documents submitted, format DWG or DXF, image format TIFF or JPEG
Documents must be submitted between the 16th and 31st October 2003, wrapped in
bubble wrap, with models in suitable cardboard box to following

No other document will be accepted. All texts are to be included on the
panels.
the projects will not be returned to the candidates, but they will be
available for collection within 2 weeks following the end of the exhibition.

Subject matter
The candidates are free to choose either an individual villa or a villa on a
housing estate for their project ( in the latter case, the overall plan of the
housing estate (scale : 1/200) is to be provided along with the sectional and
overall plans of the villa chosen (scale : 1/50).
The internet site (www.ville-lambersart.fr)
will be available for consultation. Among other information, it will include
plans and views of the building plots selected for the contest.
Details relating to the properties (plans, plots, land register, etc.) will
be provided only after pre-registration at the site www.ville-lambersart.fr
under the corresponding heading.
Individual villa :
Net floor space : 200 m2 including living-room, kitchen, 4 bedrooms, 2
bathrooms, study, laundry, workroom. Not included in this floor space : a garage
for 2 cars.
Villa in a housing estate :
Building lot : 150 to 200 m2
Net floor space : from 120 to 140 m2, including living- room, kitchen, a minimum
of 3 bedrooms. Not included in this floor space : a garage for 1 or 2 cars.
The candidates are requested to pay particular attention to the following
issues :
How the project can best comply with environmental considerations and
requirement towards quality
How the project can best fit in with the urban background and neighbourhood
(architectural characteristics, positioning of the house...)
Awards
The jury will award the laureates as follows :
1st prize : 1525 Euros
