Working in the Warwickshire countryside in the village of Great Alne, Another Country is a year-long education programme which explores contemporary arts practice. It will culminate in exciting new audio and visual exhibitions and performances taking place between 2 July-3 September 2006.

Launched in July 2005 at Great Alne Primary School, the programme involves three artists working in collaboration with local village groups, including the primary school, the Seymour Centre PRU (pupil reintegration unit) and the Young Farmers’ Association. Another Country is managed by three key organisations: Artists in Warwickshire Education, inIVA (Institute of International Visual Arts) and Rugby Art Gallery and Museum.

Spearheading the programme are two London based artists Charlie Dark, a DJ, writer and musician working predominantly with music, text and sound and Trevor Mathison, a founder member of Black Audio Film Collective and Flow Motion who works with installation and sound, and Perveen Chohan, a mixed media artist based in Warwickshire. The artists’ work with the village will lead to four events that reflect different aspects of this intercultural collaboration:

• An exhibition by Mathison at the Royal Show, Warwickshire
• An exhibition by Dark at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum
• A performance at the Bridgehouse Theatre, Warwick School, devised by Dark and Mathison and performed by Great Alne Primary School pupils
• A special event in the village to celebrate the completion of the programme

Another Country is funded by Warwickshire County Council and the Arts Council England in partnership with inIVA (Institute of International Visual Arts) and the Rugby Art Gallery & Museum.
