Barnard College has commissioned Weiss/Manfredi Architects to create a new 90.000 square foot multi - use arts building called the Nexus. An innovative center for social, artistic, and intellectual life, the Nexus will present a new face of the college to the city. Landscape rather than building serves as the catalyst of the design strategy for the Nexus. The architects will transform the building's site, the central campus green, by expanding it horizontally to connect with other parts of campus, extending it vertically into the Nexus, and making it ecologically sustainable with a green roof to be used for social space and educational research. The architects, members of the project team, and clients will discuss their visions and strategies for accommodating multiple programs to intensify cross - disciplinary learning.

The program will take place at Barnard College with a discussion and tour of the site of the project, scheduled to begin construction in 2007. Program presenters will include partners Marion Weiss and Michael A. Manfredi of Weiss/Manfredi; project team member Robert Heintges of R. A. Heintges Architects Consultants, on glazing; and others.

PROCESS is a series of on - site discussions about works in design or construction. Attendance is limited to Architectural League members, and Barnard College and Columbia University students and faculty only. Space is limited. AIA and NYS Continuing Education Units available.
