The Instituto Superior de Ciências Educativas (ISCE) organizes the Ist International Congress of Design, which subject focus on Design, Art and New Technologies: Ways, Exchanges and Frontiers.The carrying out of this International Congress substantiates on the importance that technic and technology have been assuming in every sociocultural life area, with great enphasis in Design and Art. It’s pressing, in this International Congress to research, debate and reflect on these two epistemologic axis so close and simultaneosly so far-off: Design and Art, because as said by Pierre Francastel : “(…)It was in the work of Art that was first expressed the new conscience of the modern times (…)”. We invite the researchers, on this International Congress’s scope, to propose radical changes or a number of smaller significance changes on theory and the practice associated to design, art and new technologies. This International Congress leans over scientific and technical aspects that aim to design and professional practices alternatives associated to design’s epistemology. We would like to invite the participants of this International Congress of Design, Arts and New Technologies: Ways, Exchanges and Frontiers, to look around themselves in order to see what surrounds them, to understand what today’s life and culture is made of, to research, to theorize, and to demonstrate the artifacts currently created, in every field imaginable, in the realms of design and art, and in every field close or remote, but that in some direct or indirect way are related. Its imperative not to forget that in the Design-Art-Technology’s current relation, the educational, social and political factors are ideological confrontation hinges. Not to make a problematic of the Design - Art - Technology’s relation is to lack belief on the inumerous changes, improvements and retreats transposed from experimentation and technic/technological creation, to the sociocultural circle, resulting in more or less known implications.
