openhousenewyork weekend, America's largest architect and design event, opens doors throughout New York City each October. The 5th Annual openhousenewyork Weekend will be held October 6 & 7.

openhousenewyork celebrates New York City’s architecture and design and:
- promotes a greater appreciation of New York City’s built environment
- broadens public awareness by exposing a diverse audience to distinctive examples of architecture, engineering and design
- educates and provokes discussion of issues of excellence in design, planning and preservation
- showcases outstanding new work as well as buildings and structures of historic merit.

Programs
Highlights of the 2007 OHNY Weekend will include free access to special places and spaces throughout NYC and educational programs incorporating OHNY’s six core programs:

opendialogues: speak with architects, designers, planners and scholars onsite about the thoughts, challenges and inspirations that shape the built-environment on architect-led tours and open studios to include The Rockwell Group, Eisenman Architects, Beyer Blinder Belle, H3 Hardy Collaboration, Perkins+Will, and Peter L. Gluck + Partners, Architects.

sustainablenewyork: talks and tours focusing on sustainable methods and innovations to include 30 sites and programs focused on green design such as Solar One, the city's only stand-alone solar-powered building; a tour of the Weeksville Heritage Center in Brooklyn, a free black community founded in 1838, and future home to a sustainable-design arts and education center.

architecturemoves: experience concerts and dance performances set against and inspired by the dramatic architecture, sculpture and landscape on New York City to include a site-specific performance by Martha Bowers and Dance Theater Etcetera at Brooklyn’s The Green-Wood Cemetery, the New Amsterdam Boys Choir singing at the Woolworth Chapel, and The Encampment, a multi-media installment on Roosevelt Island

OHNY Kids!: workshops, projects and tours designed especially for kids and families with an activity-filled OHNY Kids! Guide to be used at family-focused sites such as Tom Otterness Studio, Little Red Lighthouse, John J. Harvey Fireboat, Science Barge and Building Green Workshops.

OHNY Tours: join architects and expert scholars to explore New York’s most interesting places and spaces such as Allied Works Architecture (Museum of Arts & Design); Beyer Blinder Belle (Grand Central Terminal, Desmond Tutu Center, Morgan Library & Museum, Temple Emanu-El); Eisenman Architects (studio tour); Lyn Rice Architects (studio tour); Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates (Teardrop Park, The New School); and The Rockwell Group (RiverHouse, Bar Americain).
