Green roofs are revolutionising our skyline, transforming the barren rooftops of our schools, offices, high-rise car parks, homes and gardens into bio-diverse green spaces and offering tangible solutions to some of the environmental challenges we face in the 21 st century.

This unique one-day conference, organised by Groundwork Sheffield on behalf of The Green Roof Centre (the UK’s leading green roof research and demonstration centre), provides a platform to discuss low-input, sustainable approaches to the design, build and management of small scale green roofs, with a focus on aesthetic and recreational function, horticultural potential and ecological value. This is a rare opportunity to hear from leading UK academics, researchers and practitioners in the field, and to consider the implications green roof technology has for the built and natural environment.

The event is for landscape architects and garden designers, architects, urban designers and developers, ecologists, conservationists, educationalists, self-build and DIY enthusiasts, home gardeners and anyone with an interest in ecological ideas or sustainable features.

Key notes speakers include Dr. Nigel Dunnett (University of Sheffield) and Dusty Gedge (founder of livingroofs.org).
