In partnership with the Center for Architecture, the Architectural League and The Architect's Newspaper, House & Garden's Design Happening will present a panel on strategies for accommodating one million more New Yorkers by 2030, while lightening the city's carbon footprint and preserving the character of its neighborhoods.

Panelists will include Daniel Libeskind, the internationally renowned architect and designer of the original Freedom Tower; Shaun Donovan, the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Housing and Preservation; Laurie Beckelman, the former Chair of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, and now a principal of the strategic advisory firm, Beckelman + Capolino; Michael Sorkin, architect, critic and director of the Graduate Urban Design program at City College of New York; Mike Wallace, distinguished professor of History at John Jay College and co-author of the Pulitzer Prize -winning Gotham: A History of New York City to 1898; and Bill McKibben, environmentalist and author of numerous books, including the 1989 classic The End of Nature, the first book to forewarn the dangers of climate change, and most recently, Deep Economy: The Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future. Architecture critic Martin Filler will moderate.
