The London Architecture Biennale sets out to celebrate the vibrant architectural scene in London today.

The London Architecture Biennale in 2006 will once again be centred on the Clerkenwell / Farringdon area but will extend its reach to include Kings Cross and Bankside, with satellite events in Borough, Hoxton and Shoreditch.

The launch weekend events will be in Smithfield where, on the site of the ancient Clothfair, a range of events will reinforce our understanding of the city we live in and the forces that shape it.

A walking and cycling route will be created from Kings Cross to the South Bank along which there will be events and interventions. There will be guided tours along the route and open spaces like Paternoster Square, St John Square, Clerkenwell Green and Exmouth Market will house events and temporary buildings.

A National Architecture Student Festival will take place as part of the Biennale where students will build structures that respond to a brief related to their particular location along the route.

An educational programme will engage young people from schools and youth projects in areas along the LAB 06 route through activities and curriculum related work that will inspire them about architecture and their local area. This will include participation in the Student festival.

A structured programme of exhibitions, lectures, seminars, walks and parties will reflect the Biennale's aim of celebrating the creative talent that exists in London and to bring that talent to bear on real issues that confront London today.
