Thomas Rau founded RAU in the year 1992; since then, RAU Architects, through the application of integral design methodology, has become one of the leading architecture firms working towards sustainability. Mr. Rau prefers to call this oneplanetarchitecture - a way of working in which respect and care for the world are central. In aiming for the unique gestalt to suit the location, the people and the times, RAU engages with nature in a well-considered and conscientious way, striving in each of its designs to create an example of socially and environmentally responsible architecture. Organized by the AIA Committee on the Environment, Mr. Rao’s lecture will enlighten us on what oneplanetarchitecture practice means to the world of architecture and how it has been -and is still being- realized today.

Thomas Rau was born in Gummersbach, Germany in 1960. After studying Pedagogy, Sculpture at the Academy of Arts in Bonn and Architecture at the Technical University of Aachen, he moved to Amsterdam in 1990 to work as an architect.

Entrance is free for members, 20 Dollars for nonmembers.
