The KEK - Hungarian Contemporary Architecture center organizes The First International festival for Architectural Models under the title "100 Rooms - 100 Models" in Budapest from 07 - 09 November 2008. The event integrates a symposium, walking city-tours, the presentations of star architects as well as a grand scale architectural model exhibition. This is the first of a series of festivals to be organized every second year. Each occasion will be assigned a specific topic as its key guideline.
This year, the key topic is "competition models". Models entered for competitions, by nature, are one of the most radical manifestations of archtectural thinking as they represent a pure architectural point of view. The exhibition, which is greatly to its location itself, displays one hundred architectural models produced for tenders by a hundred architect's and designer's offices from all over Europe. The potential participants are invited to provide their favourite models that they can best identify themselves with, regardless the fact whether the competition was successful or not. Also, the model should present their architectural thinking, stand for their approach to architecture.
As part of the programmes, renowned stars of the profession are invited to give lectures: Negotiations are still underway, though Chris Bosse from the Australian LAVA Architects Studio has already confirmed his participation. Beyond the offered programmes, such as the presentation of star architects, the possibility of making international contacts and developing networks as well as having outstanding publicity, the three-day festival ensures various programs that present Budapest's architecture from an alternative point of view. One of these programs is a walking city-tour which aims to show the visitors some unknown details of the changing city on site.
