Nancy Stieber is Associate Professor and Chair of the Art Department at the University of Massachusetts Boston. She has written extensively on Dutch housing, architecture, and urbanism of the nineteenth and twentieth century.

Her 1998 book "Housing Design and Society in Amsterdam: Reconfiguring Urban Order and Identity, 1900-1920" won the 1999 Spiro Kostof Award. She is currently writing a book on the visual imagining of Amsterdam around 1900 entitled "The Metaphorical City: Representations of Fin-de-Siècle Amsterdam". Professor Stieber has been the recipient of numerous grants including support from the J. Paul Getty Foundation and the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. From 2003-2006, she is the editor of the "Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians".
