EASA 2006 will take place at Budapest, the capital city of Hungary between  23 July -  6 August 2006. this years theme will be "public space" like resent years done.

Selecting the theme for the 2006 EASA was mainly influenced by the fact that not only architects but also public opinion deals more and more with renovation and redefinition of our public spaces. A lot of problems were brought up by the related dialogue to which the solutions weren’t implemented because of their obviousness. The title (köz:hely – common:place) has a double meaning. On one hand it refers to the banality, obviousness – even in English, the official language of EASA –, and on the other hand it means “public space” even though the expression faded out from everyday speech, still was a lively part of the literature at the end of the last century. We will analyse what these two meanings mean to the metropolitan citizen, what questions can be asked in the different art and scientific branches and what are those problems, that architects can help solve.

The program will be in the capital. This means the work can use the social and economic situation that Hungary has; the fact that it is largely centralized and all the major events are held mainly in Budapest. We would like to use all available context that a metropolitan city offers (walls, posters, signs, roads, radio, television, newspapers etc.) in order to start a discussion between the architects and citizens.

The base of the assembly will be at the Technical University, having easy access to the downtown. Fast and easy transportation is also provided. We will set up accommodation for the 400 expected participants on the last Hungarian-built sea-faring ship, the Kassa, which serves now as a workshop-ship. The towship of Kassa is the Sopron, where the organisers will have their living quarters. Meals, lectures and programs would be held on a third ship.

The assembly will start on 23 July 2006 and end on 6 August 2006. We made our schedule so that it fits into the usual festivals and other programs in Budapest, so workshops can integrate into the cultural life of the city.
