Will Alsop will be exhibiting a series of expressive contemporary paintings in his first North American Art Exhibition, Cultural Fog, which opens at the Olga Korper Gallery, Toronto, on 8 June.
Following the completion of the OCAD building in 2004, Will Alsop has become an integral part of Toronto’s architectural renaissance. Alsop’s international experience and outsider’s perspective provide a unique view of the City’s potential. Inspired by Toronto’s Kensington Market area, Cultural Fog is an exhibition which questions the nature of urbanism and community. Will Alsop says of the exhibition: “I paint to learn, to exercise my brain and my imagination. Cultural Fog is my musing on the possibilities for Kensington Market and the real nature of community. By making a city inspiring and inventive it becomes different from anywhere else in the world.”
Alsop’s paintings have been exhibited alongside his architectural projects and by several prestigious institutions in the UK, demonstrating how art contributes to the built environment.
