Prof.Dr. Mehmet Ocakçı made a speech titled "Urban Form
Characteristics." He mentioned some theories developed for the urban space
and explained the urban form characteristics by concepts such as texture,
continuity, consecutiveness, repetitive rhythm, direction, similarity,
transparency, dominancy, volume and closed ness, shape, ratio, hierarchy, size,
scale and time.
The second spokesperson of the seminar, Prof.Dr. Atilla Yücel made a
presentation titled "Architectural Object as a Social Artifact in Urban
Development - A Case Study." He gave information about a shopping center he
designed in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, in parallel with the
properties of historical regions taken as a reference. Yücel emphasized that
Podgorica was a city undergoing rapid transformation and the project met the
requirements of development and transformation of such a city. He mentioned
about a project affecting the city and also the city affecting a project.
Prof.Dr. Peter Kellett of Newcastle University, made a speech titled
"The Construction of Home in the Informal City" and talked about the
establishment of cities, the context and the development. He quoted impressions
he had in 5 years in Latin America and provided information regarding the
squatter housing definitions there.
Kellett emphasized that the analysis of a city should not be done solely by
looking at it but also by spending time, even by living there for a time period.
He provided visual proofs displaying the role economic factors play in the
change of residential developments.
Workshop studies continued in the classroom and computer lab provided by
Istanbul Technical University.
