In the first day of the program on May 28th - June 4th of 2004, opening speeches were made and information was given to the participants regarding the program of the workshop.

The first spokesperson was the president of ITU, Prof.Dr. Gülsün Sağlamer. She emphasized that this workshop would benefit the on going studies for the productive development of the city and the society. She said that we know what happened in the past very well, probably not what will happen in the future, and gave examples of the studies made before regarding the urban life and space. She presented her thanks to the staff that helped the realization of the organization, professors participating from Turkey and from abroad and all student participants.

The second spokesperson, Ferhan Yürekli, reminded that Le Corbusier studied this city very well and hoped that the participants would be successful.

In the speech titled "Spatial Analysis of Urban Form in Istanbul" prepared by Prof.Dr. Vedia Dökmeci and Burçin Yazgı, the changes in Istanbul after 1960 and in 10-year periods were examined. Yazgı mentioned the physical and cultural changes in especially Pera and also the comparative studies she made in the Eminönü-Beyoğlu-Kemerburgaz regions.

The last spokesperson of the day was Prof.Dr. Yurdanur Dülgeroğlu Yüksel. She used a video presentation showing pictures of Istanbul. In her speech she gave information about the program of the workshop, general context and the organization committee. The first day ended with the formation of study groups and Evren Uzer's presentation consisting of Cumalıkızık photographs
