31 May 2004 Monday The first spokesperson of the program composed of seminars and workshop was Prof.Dr. Neslihan Dostoğlu. In her speech titled "Culture - Space & Change," Dostoğlu mentioned the relationship between culture, space and change by giving examples of prefabricated buildings made after the earthquakes and also the local architecture. She talked about satisfaction with the residence and local & modern residence concepts and emphasized the importance of teamwork consisting many experts from diversified fields for the social and physical environment. The second spokesperson of the seminar, Prof.Dr. Karen A. Franck of the Architecture Faculty of the New Jersey University made a presentation titled "The City of Opposites" and provided visual support for her speech. Franck evaluated the city using opposite concepts such as new-old, open-closed, transparent-opaque and presented her views for giving new functions to the old, having the old as it is and placing the new within the old. The last spokesperson of the seminar, Prof.Dr. Nuran Zeren Gülersoy gave brief information about the urban conservation examples and explained her conservation studies in the Zeyrek Region in the presentation titled "Urban Conservation Studies in Turkey." Gülersoy mentioned the studies in the planning stage with the physical and social structure of the region and also evaluated the results of the survey that was made to determine the social structure of the region. In the workshop after the seminar, a brainstorming session was made to elaborate analyses in Cumalıkızık and the studies within different groups were presented to the professors. The problems Cumalıkızık was facing and even possible future problems were discussed and different ways of solution were examined. |
