International Workshop in Architecture and Urban Design

The international wokshop in architecture an urban design that is organized by Politecnico di Milano will be between 10 - 17 September, 2005. Workshop groups will be supervised by project heads coming from the most important and qualified design facilities in the world arcitecture and engineering like AREP France and SOM - Skidmore Owings & Merril USA.

The Organization

The design workshop is directed to designers, architects, town planners, engineers and landscapearchitects from all over the world. They will be organized in two multidisciplinary, international ateliers, each consisting of up to ten participants, who will be confronting each other over a common design topic.

At the end of the two weeks, the objective of the workshop is to produce an actual design topic at the architectural scale, without educational purposes. Conceived as an encounter for young professionals, it is also intended as a centre of experimentation where different experiences and feelings achieve a consistent and shared synthesis of design, through debate and confrontation.

The Topic

The topic for 2005 will be the production of the wider relation between infrastructures for the mobility and the contemporary town, within a local area.Particularly, the attention will be focussed on the design challenge represented by the relation between transport infrastructures and the contemporary town, following the process of enlargement of the European Union within the huge process of refocusing on international relations. The current stage of the work of Metropolis has selected some significant examples for reference and focussed on a project area that, with the problematic features above mentioned, is located in a town of a country of the enlarged European Union.
