The Stockholm Furniture Fair is the world's biggest venue for Nordic design and the place to see the most complete selection of furniture, lighting, office, design, textiles and other furnishings for domestic and public environments. 2005 will once again see kitchen manufacturers amongst the exhibitors, a category only present every other year.
Stockholm Furniture Fair and Lighting with just over 800 exhibitors and 37,000 visitors is the biggest design event in the Nordic region. The reason is of course business, but being able to exchange ideas, meet in person and absorbing inspiration and know-how are also significant reasons for attendance. At the 2004 exhibition, we invited a "Guest of Honour" for the first time who was given the task of designing a lounge in the entrance hall using her own products. The lounge - created by Patricia Urquiola, the renowned and highly-regarded Spanish designer, based in Milan - lit up the entire lobby and became a popular and natural meeting place. Prior to the 2005 exhibition, we will highlight a new country and invite a guest whose identity remains a secret at this time! An exhibition not only has to reflect its industry, but drive it forwards by becoming a forum for its development. The leading Swedish furniture companies use the Stockholm Furniture Fair to present their new products. Greenhouse is a special section for international design schools and newly-qualified designers, judged by a panel of experts. The aim is to create the opportunity for exciting meetings and fruitful partnerships between the industry of today and the design profiles of tomorrow. The Stockholm Design Week is held to coincide with the Stockholm Furniture Fair - a showcase event when Stockholm bubbles with design events and exhibitions. As a guide for visitors, we produce the Stockholm Design Guide for things to see and do even after the fair has closed. In addition to information on the fair, the guide lists events held in showrooms around the city. And there are also tips on design shops, restaurants, shows, bars and other things worth seeing that make Stockholm one of the world's design Meccas. Web: www.stockholmfurniturefair.com
