The organisation holding
the competition intends to select the most creative ideas for promoting travel
and cultural products.
The programme involves
the design of a small sized (portable) and low-cost product, of a highly
evocative nature.
A total of nine cash
prizes are to be awarded: a Grand Prize of 30,000 dollars, two Gold Prizes of
15,000 dollars, two Silver Prizes of 10,000 dollars and four Bronze Prizes of
5,000 dollars.
Submissions must be
received by the 15th September 2004.
On June 24th, the advisory committee for the International Travel Souvenir
Design Competition(ITSDC) nominated two Koreans for the jury.
Those accredited as jurors are : Mr. Min, Chul-Hong, an honorary professor of
Seoul National University and prominent expert of crafts and design fields and
Mr. Chun, Ho-Kyun, a CEO of Ssamzie,Inc and successive businessman in the design
related world.
Furthermore, ITSDC already nominated three overseas jurors as follows.
Mr. Peter Zec (Europe), president-elect of ICSID (International Council of
Societies Industrial Design); Mrs. Patricia Dandignac(Americas), managing editor
of American Craft; and Mr. Fukuda Shigeo(Asia), president of JAGDA (Japan
Graphic Designers Association).
After the preliminary (Oct. 6, 2004 - Oct. 8, 2004) and final evaluation
(Feb. 2, 2005 - Feb. 4, 2005), all the award-winning artworks will be displayed
in KINTEX (Korea International Exhibition Center) from April. 11, through April.

Limitation (Free selection)
No limitations have been set on the subject of design. However, the finished
product should be portable and affordable, and also have potential for enduring
popularity and commemorative value.

•Honorable Mention Multiple Winners Certificate - Gyeonggi Province and
Gyeonggi Tourism Organization(GTO) hold the property rights and copyrights of
all winning entries except Honorable Mentions . ? Taxes are included in all cash
prize - GTO reserves the right to reproduce all winning entries including the
Honorable Mentions in Video/CD recordings, catalogues, photos, publications, and
exhibitions. - The catalogue will be given to applicants winning Honorable
Mention or higher.

Slides or Images need to

? Facsimile application is not allowed. ? The office is closed on Sundays, and
national holidays. Further information should be made only by fax or e-mail; no
telephone calls appreciated.
8. Other Matters to be
Noted
? All slides, image files and documents submitted in the Preliminary shall NOT
be returned to the applicants. ? Applicants shall be responsible for safe
package of the finished products or mockups when submitting them for the Final.
? Be sure to affix the label issued by the GTO to the packages when submitting
them for the Final. Additionally, fill in a Product Status Report (the
prescribed form shall be provided at a later date) and submit it with the
finished product or mockup. ? If the finished product or mockup does not
correspond to the slides, image files, or if the finished product or mockup is
incomplete, the entry might be disqualified. ? If an applicant's design has been
previously made public or disclosed, or imitated an existing work, the Jury
might decide whether to disqualify the applicant in question. ? Slides, image
files, finished products, or mockups arriving later than the date specified by
the GTO might be excluded from the competition. ? Finished products or mockups
should not be removed or returned during the exhibition.
9. Selections and

10. Exhibition &
Award Ceremony
- What to be exhibited : Works winning Honorable Mentions and higher. - Venue:
Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) - Period: Apr. 11 - Apr. 20, 2005
? The Jury may decide not to exhibit any work that does not comply to the
standards or is severely damaged. ? The schedule for the award ceremony and the
exhibition will be made public after the results of the final evaluation are
announced. ? Awardees will be notified of the various conveniences offered at a
later time.
11. Shipping
1) Entries from Korea
- The applicant shall be responsible for shipping finished products or mockups
for the final selection. GTO is not responsible for any damages to finished
products or mockups during shipping to the GTO office. In order to prevent
damages that may occur in shipping, the applicant should make sure that the
finished products or mockups are packed securely.
2) Entries from Overseas
- For the final selection, the applicant is responsible for shipping finished
products or mockups to the GTO, and the GTO is responsible for shipping it back
to the applicants. - Works are to be shipped door to door. The applicant shall
bear all costs incurred, including insurance costs, during transportation from
the applicant to GTO
3) Return of Honorable Mentions
- Entries from Korea : If a domestic applicant does not arrange for the
collection of his/her work within two(2) weeks after the exhibition, the GTO
shall dispose of the works at its own discretion. - Entries from overseas : The
GTO shall ship finished products or mockups at its own expense to the
applicants.
12. Insurance
Entries from Korea - The GTO shall insure the submitted finished products or
mockups against any accidents that may occur between the time of acceptance to
the end of the exhibition. Entries from Overseas - The GTO shall insure the
submitted finished products or mockups against any accidents that may occur
between the time of acceptance and the time of return to the applicant. Cost of
Insurance - When an applicant does not provide insurance value of finished
products or mockups, GTO may decide the insurance value at its discreet for
smooth insurance process. However, this insurance value does not mean the
appraised value of finished products or mockups in question.
? The schedules and venues described in the guidelines are subject to change
without prior notice.
? As for the items not stated in the above, the GTO and the Jury shall
deliberate and reach a decision.
