The focus is on table
glass at the sixth International "Trieste Contemporanea" Design
Competition, intended to promote the most original expressions in design from
central and eastern European nations.
Along with the Venice
Forum set up at the Biennial three years ago with the aim of providing an update
on cultural developments in central and eastern Europe, the competition is one
of the most important initiatives of the Trieste Contemporanea Committee,
sponsored by INCE (Central European Initiative).
In the wake of the
success of the last edition, the competition focuses once again on blown glass
design.
The theme is designing an
item to be used at the table.
The competition is open to designers from 21 countries: Albania, Austria,
Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Germany, Italy,
Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldavia, Poland, Czech Republic, Federal Republic
of Yugoslavia, Republic of Slovakia, Romania, Slovenia, Ukraine and Hungary.
An international panel of judges chaired by Gillo Dorfles will select the
best projects.
The winner will be offered a prize of 3,000.00 euro and a trip to Murano
(Venice) to oversee creation of a prototype by glassmakers Anfora-Isola
Serenella.
The youngest of the selected designers will be awarded the BEBA prize of
1,000.00 euro.
There is no charge for participation in the competition. Enter by submitting
a project and an application form by May 15 2004.
