Promoters and aims of competition
The Institute for International Architectural Documentation and the specialist
journal DETAIL, in collaboration with the Bavarian Chamber of Architects, are
now promoting the DETAIL Prize 2005 for the first time.
Awards will be made to schemes distinguished by innovative details that form
an integral part of an outstanding overall design. Resolving technical problems
should not be the sole criterion of the details, however; their specific
features should also serve to define the general character of the scheme. Every
material has specific properties that determine its constructional use,
aesthetics and ultimately the way in which the details are formed. For that
reason, in addition to the main DETAIL Prize 2005, which is independent of the
materials used, further prizes will be awarded in the following categories:
timber, steel, glass and plastics. There will also be special prizes for
students and for eastern Europe.
The jury
The projects submitted will be judged by an independent jury that will include
the following members:
• Carlo Baumschlager, Baumschlager-Eberle
• Florian Nagler
• Dominique Perrault, Perrault architecte
• Chris Wilkinson, Wilkinson-Eyre
• Lutz Heese, president of the Bavarian Chamber of Architects
• Christian Schittich, editor-in-chief of DETAIL
