Subject: The present use of the old prison buildings situated on top of
Kakolanmäki hill will end in 2007. The aim of the open international ideas
competition is to find a high-quality solution for connecting the prison area to
the surrounding urban structure and for new uses for the old prison buildings.
The competition will form the basis of detailed plans to be prepared by the
Turku City Environmental and City Planning Department. The Competition Area
comprises about 20 hectares and it is situated south-west of the city centre of
Turku, one city block away from the River Aura.
