Art. 1 Type of competition and aims
DITEC S.p.A. of Caronno Pertusella (MI), a leading manufacturer of automatic
entrances, in conjunction with the frames architecture magazine FRAMES,
announces the second edition of an international architecture award to encourage
the use of automatic components and systems in buildings.
Art. 2 Contents
The aim of the competition is to pinpoint and reward the best architectural
solutions incorporating automatic entrances and/or automatisms for openings, for
controlling sunlight and/or other smart automations for controlling fronts and
frames. Already implemented projects or projects due to be developed within the
expiry date of the competition shall be eligible.
Art. 3 Participation
The award is of an international nature, is open to all designers and is
split into two sections, with separate ratings:
SECTION 1: for architects, engineers and designers in general, registered in
professional Rolls and Registers. This section is dedicated to already
implemented projects or projects due to be developed within the expiry date of
the competition, which incorporate automatic entrances and/or automatisms for
openings, for controlling sunlight and/or other smart automations for
controlling fronts and frames.
SECTION 2: for students in architectural, engineering faculties and design
institutes. The works presented by the students must be coordinated by a
teacher. This section is dedicated to theses, research works and study projects
centring on architectural design that integrate smart automation systems in
residential, commercial, service-industry or industrial buildings.
For both sections, individual or group participation is allowed. Though
recognising the paternity of the work as belonging to the group as a whole, a
"Group leader" must be indicated as the sole interlocutor in relations
with the Award organisers. Competitors shall be allowed to take part with one or
more works as long as these are presented separately. All competitors shall
present their candidatures and entries in a clear manner.
Art. 4 Entries
Entry to the award is free . All entries will be accepted as and from 18
March 2004 until the expiry date of this notice of competition. To enter the
competition, competitors must complete the special form available on website
www.faenza.com, or send an entry application by ordinary or e-mail to the
organisation secretariat:

All entrants will receive a competition folder containing details on the
architecture automations industry, the entry presentation procedures and the
main judging criteria to be adopted by the panel of judges. All entrants will
also receive an I.D. number required for presenting entries and when contacting
the organisers. The secretariat and the organisers cannot accept any liability
for postal losses or delays.
Art. 5 Entries and expiry dates
For all future exhibition purposes, all the entries must be contained on 2
rigid tablets (50x70 cm) and be accompanied by a descriptive report , in A4
format, consisting of no more that 5 typewritten pages. All notices must be
written in Italian or English. More details and information will be included in
the competition folder.
All entries must reach the organisation secretariat by 12 noon on 16/12/2004.
Entries can be dispatched by mail or express courier and reference shall be
made to the date of dispatch. The entries can also be delivered directly by hand
to the secretariat and in this case a receipt will be issued. In all cases, only
entries received within 15 days from the expiry date will be accepted. All
others will be rejected. The secretariat and the organisers cannot accept any
liability for postal delays or loss. The entries of the winners and meritorious
entrants will not be returned. All the others, after being used for the
exhibition, will be returned, if requested, at the applicant's charge. Materials
not collected within 90 days will be destroyed.
Art. 6 Ineligibility
The following cannot participate in the competition:
• Members of the panel of judges;
• The spouses, relatives or similar, up to third degree of kinship, of the
members of the panel of judges;
• The employees, employers or persons having stable work relationships with
the members of the panel of judges;
• The employees of the organising body;
• Persons involved in drawing up the notice of competition.
Art. 7 Panel of judges
Members of the panel of judges will be:
• Mr. Gabriele Del Mese (Ove Arup), expert in building technology.
• Mr. Felix Foure (groupe 6, Grenoble - Paris), international expert.
• Mr. Giancarlo Rosa. Department of Architecture "La Sapienza",
Rome.
• Mr. Antonio Piva Department of Architecture, Politecnico, Milan.
• Mr. Fabrizio Bianchetti, editor of the magazine FRAMES.
• Mr. Paolo Pons, DITEC Team Managing Director.
Art. 8 Awards
All participants will receive an entry diploma The panel of judges will have
the following awards at disposal:
SECTION 1: professional designer award
1st prize euro 5,000.00
2nd prize euro 2,500.00
3rd prize euro 1,500.00
The Panel of judges will also present a special plaque with euro 1,000.00 refund
to the project that best addresses the topic of automatic entrances.
SECTION 2: student and institute award
1st prize euro 2,000.00 to the student and plaque to the institute
A special plaque with euro 1,000.00 refund to the project that best addresses
the topic of automatic entrances.
2 recommendations of euro 500.00 each to refund students presenting meritorious
projects, as well as a plaque for the institute.
Finally, in the event of the Panel of judges deciding not to assign a number
of prizes, it shall be entitled to make use of the prize money to assign refunds
to projects considered meritorious.
Art. 9 Results and divulgation
The decisions of the panel of judges shall be taken by 30 January 2005. The
results shall be notified to the winners by registered mail and divulged through
the press and by means of a special prize-giving event. The Panel of judges
shall distribute a final report indicating the evaluation criteria and decision
motivations. The winning projects and all those considered meritorious by the
Panel of judges shall be exhibited in an exhibition and presented to the public
during the prize-giving ceremony to be staged by March 2005 during the course of
a special event.
The organisers reserve the right to publish the works received in the trade
press as well as compile a catalogue of the works received. Persons taking part
in the competition by submitting works authorise use of their materials for the
above purposes. The competitors shall not be entitled to any consideration for
the above-mentioned uses.
Art. 10 Acceptance
By submitting projects, competitors accept, without reservation, the
conditions indicated in the notice of competition and the decisions of the Panel
of judges, both as regards the construal of the notice of competition and the
evaluation of the participating works.
