SEA (Aeroporti di Milano) is looking for ideas, creative and innovative proposals to give a brand new look to Malpensa Airport.
Through its competitive tender notice SEA calls upon all architects and designers, in Italy and abroad, to bring its vision for "La Porta di Milano" to life, a genuine work of art connecting the airport to the city, a grand entrance of great symbolic value filled with awe-inspiring lights, sounds, materials and colours.
"La Porta di Milano" will be a unique, iconic work, the ideal mix of art and architecture by which Milan will greet the entire world in a brand new way: an emotional, memorable gateway of such striking aesthetics as to make a lasting impression in the hearts and minds of travellers.
With this project, SEA, Malpensa and the City look forward to the 2015 challenge: a major challenge, open to anyone who wishes to participate with a project that can rise to the occasion.
Eligibility
The notice of competition, with the object of involving not only the Italian but also the
international world of architecture and design, plans to create a space with a high aesthetic value, virtually representing the door to the city of Milan. Apart from emotively kindling the imagination of the passengers by its fascinating lights, colours, materials and sounds, this work could also become an exceptional location for holding cultural events and exhibitions.
"La Porta di Milano", which will come to life between the airport and the Malpensa Express railway station, will be an area of great creative impact, a perfect blend of art and architecture, with which Milan will welcome the whole world in an entirely original manner: a sensorial itinerary pointing straight to the heart and mind of the travellers.
An estimated 1,7 million Euro is planned to be invested in completing the entire work.
