EG Retail & Future Project Awards 2007

Now in its fourth year, the EG Retail and Future Project Awards 2007 will be presented during MAPIC at a Gala Awards Dinner at the Carlton Hotel Cannes on Wednesday November 14th and will celebrate excellence in architecture, development, investment and agency across the retail property market.

From June 1st 2007, entries are invited from developers and architects for future projects in the following categories:
- Retail Development over 20.000 sq m
- Retail Development under 20.000 sq m
- Leisure and Hotels
- Retail Redevelopment and Refurbishment
- Regeneration and Sustainability
- BCSC International Trends
- Best Architectural Entry

From June 1st 2007, entries are invited from developers, advisers and investment companies in the following categories:
- European Retail Developer
- European Retail Property Adviser
- European Retail Financier
- European Retail Investment Fund
- European Retail Property Personality

Awards Categories
Best Architectural Entry

Selected by the judges from the architectural category award winning entries which in their opinion is the most innovative and outstanding entry.

Best Major Retail Development Scheme
Major complex of stores, urban developments with a retail element, superstores and hypermarkets of over 20,000 sq metres. The judges will be recognising excellence in entries that change an urban community by responding to strategic issues of social responsibility, transport and sustainability with flair and intelligence. Schemes may be mixed-use or pure retail and will have an innovative approach in the overall strategy of the development.

Best Retail Development Scheme
Medium or small sized developments under 20,000 sq metres that in the opinion of the judges presents plans for a development taking account of landscaping, visual impact on the local environment, ease of ingress/egress and refurbishment/new build as well demonstrating the ability of internal space to respond to changing fashion and creative demands. Smaller retail developments will push the envelope in terms of use of available space, demonstrate a creative flair and maximise the potential for commercial success.

Retail Redevelopment and Refurbishment
A project which renews and refreshes an existing building or development to create a vibrant retail environment.

Regeneration and Sustainability
The Regeneration and Sustainability Award is a new category for 2007. The introduction of this award reflects the high levels of innovation and initiative in projects around the world in meeting environmental challenges.

Planet PositiveT is a global environmental certification for businesses, products and individuals.

Planet Positive goes beyond neutral. It is a standard of achievement showing that you have committed to an annual process of measurement and reduction of your carbon emissions, responsibly offsetting the remainder by a minimum of 110%. The offsetting allows you to invest in verified environmental projects and initiatives that make real reductions to green house gases.

Award Guidelines
The judges for this award will be looking for projects that consider any or all of the following issues:

- Embodied and operational energy and resultant CO2 emissions
- Reducing carbon in the supply chain
- Use of low carbon technology
- Responsible offsetting
- Transport impacts
- Waste management and resource use
- Biodiversity

BCSC International Trends
A development that breaks the conventional mould and may act as a pointer towards the future direction of retail development.

Leisure and Hotels
Mixed use projects containing a balance of leisure, hotel and retail use.

Retail Awards
European Retail Property Adviser
Presented to the consultant who has successfully contributed to retail development and growth across the continent.

European Retail Property Developer
Selected from the architectural entries and awarded to the Developer of a development that in the opinion of the judges demonstrates flair, innovation and a vision of the potential for the site.

European Retail Investment Fund
Presented to the most innovative and successful backer of retail development.

European Retail Financier
Recognition of an individual who has shown courage and foresight in enabling development finance.

European Retail Property Personality
Awarded to the individual who in the opinion of the judges has contributed most to retail property in 2007.

Eligibility
Who Can Enter?
Retailers, designers, developers, funders, architects, contractors, advisers and investment companies.

What Can Be Entered?
Architectural entries to the EG Retail and Future Project Awards and Catalogue will be limited projects on the drawing board, or under construction, at the time of entry and showing proposals in context.

Winning Entries
The jury will make awards in each category and the best overall project will be given the Best Architectural Award.

Publication
All shortlisted entries will be reviewed in the EG Retail and Future Project Awards Catalogue which will be made available on registration to all MAPIC delegates at Cannes. These entries may be featured in the daily MAPIC News along with interviews. In addition, all unpremiated entries will be shown in the MAPIC Retail Future Projects Awards Catalogue.

Exhibition
All architectural entries will be exhibited at the MAPIC Palais, branded ‘EG Retail and Future Project Awards at MAPIC 2007’. All shortlisted retail entries will be listed on the exhibition stand as EG Retail Entries. All entries, retail and future project, will be run on a video stream at the Awards Dinner.

Entry Fees
The entry fee for each architectural project or retail entry (with the exception of the European Retail Personality and European Retail Developer which have no entry fee) is the sum of 500 Euros and will only be accepted as a credit or debit card payment with card details to be included with each submission.

Entry Forms & Deadline
Each submission must have a separate entry form. All entrants must be named in the submission. Deadline for receipt of entries is September 17th 2007. Judging will take place the following week and the short listed entries for an award will be notified by email on October 5th. Please ensure entries arrive by the closing date. Entries despatched on the closing date will be accepted but must be received before September 21st.
