The Lower Austrian government agency "Lebensqualität - Aktion Natur im Garten" is sponsoring the international garden architecture award “best private plots 08 - Die besten Gärten 2008” in order to foster and recognise achievements in the design of private outdoor space.

The competition is an important component of the discourse on the design of private outdoor space. The prize honours exceptional achievements in the design of private outdoor space and gardens. The competition highlights the garden as a place of innovation, as a space for creative expression and action, as contemporary dialogue between architecture and landscape.

The international competition Best Private Plots 08 - Die besten Gärten 2008 is being held for the third consecutive year. Awards are in recognition of newly designed gardens or for redesign of existing gardens.

The competition highlights the garden as a place of innovation, as a space for creative expression and action, as contemporary dialogue between architecture and landscape. The award criteria include: idea, artistic and conceptual quality, use of plants and materials, relationship between inside and outside, delimitation of space and organisation of open space, technical and ecological planning. Special attention will also be given to the individual diversity of use and functionality.

The open space must be clearly identifiable as intended for private residence and use and have been completed after 01 January 1998.

The award criteria include: idea, artistic and conceptual quality, use of plants and materials, relationship between inside and outside, delimitation of space and organisation of open space, technical and ecological planning. Special attention will also be given to the individual diversity of use and functionality. The open space must be clearly identifiable as intended for private residence and use.

Eligibility
This is an open competition. Landscape architects, architects, designers, artists, florists, nurseries and landscaping firms, garden owners -as well as teams consisting of a combination thereof- are eligible.

Entry Requirements
Each entrant may submit one project. Multiple entries will be disqualified. Official competition languages are German and English.

- Poster
Entrants are required to submit a poster to be used for presentation (rolled), A0 vertical or A0 horizontal, featuring plans, photos, project description (portrait of the garden: unique aspects of the garden), optional supplementary sketches, sections, detail drawings, elevations, plant lists, etc.

Please ensure that the name(s) of the entrant(s) and the location of the garden or the private open space are clearly visible on the poster.

The posters depicting the thirty nominated projects will be shown in the exhibition “best private plots 08 – Die besten Gärten 2008”.

Project description (portrait of the garden: unique aspects of the garden) a maximum of one A4 sheets (500 words), word or rtf file.
Images: 4 to 8 photographs (A4) as tif or Photoshop-eps, resolution 300 dpi.
