The Metropolitan Municipality of Quito, the Corporation for Environmental Health “Vida para Quito” and the Architects’ Association of Ecuador - Pichincha Province, are implementing the Open International Competition for Ideas in urban planning, architecture and landscape architecture, for the design of Quito´s Lake Park (Parque del Lago). The Competition Site is currently the location of the Mariscal Sucre International Airport, in the cities’ north.

The above mentioned Competition seeks to obtain holistic proposals that would allow for: the reconfiguration of the urban development policies and tendencies of the northern zone, the promotion of urban improvement processes, the solution for the limitations of northern Quito’s transversal connectivity (east - west), the reduction of environmental liabilities, the promotion of the recuperation of the landscape and urban environment, and the generation of well-being and social integration in public spaces.

The Competition was launched on 18 August 2008. The official languages of the Competition are Spanish and English.

Eligibility
The Competition constitutes an invitation directed to all national and international professionals, with background in architecture, urbanism, landscape architecture, urban design, etc., in order that in an open manner, all actors may participate and take part in the design of a future public space of special transcendence for the city of Quito.

Submission Requirements
- All of the components that constitute the submission should be sent in their entirety in one delivery.
- Any modification or addition to the original submission will not be accepted.
- The participants are solely responsible for any cost incurred in sending the submissions.
- Submitted entries should be wrapped in a package in such a manner that protects the design boards properly; inside the package should be a sealed envelope with the participants’ information, which will be maintained sealed until the Competition Jury Committee reveals its decision.
- In the sealed envelope, along with the participants’ information, the following forms and documents should be included:
“Identification and Participation Form”
“Acceptance of the Conditions of the Sponsor Form”
“Authorization for Public Exhibition and Publication Form”
Photocopy of Diploma and / or Professional Registration Identification of team representative; without this, no submission will be accredited any prize.
Photocopy of identification card or passport of the representative of the team. All the application forms should be properly filled out and signed. The absence of any of these documents constitutes a cause for disqualification. It is the responsibility of the participants to ensure proper packaging and sending of their submission, in such manner that guarantees the integrity of the boards and CD / DVD.
- Damaged submissions will not be accepted.
- Digital backups of the complete submission should be contained on one CD or DVD in the following format only: high-resolution pdfs. The content may be in Spanish or English.
- All internationally posted submissions should be labeled in Spanish and English: “Without Commercial Value (Sin valor comercial)” in order to avoid duties and delays in customs. In case of damage or loss of submissions, the organizers cannot assume responsibility nor concede any compensation to the participant.
