Yarışma BilgileriAIA New York's annual Design Awards Program recognizes excellence in architectural design by New York City architects and for work in New York City. The purpose of the awards program is to increase awareness of outstanding design and to honor the architects, clients, and consultants who work together to improve the built environment.

Eligibility
Architecture located anywhere in the world designed by AIA New York members or by registered architects practicing in New York City, and architecture located in New York City designed by registered architects practicing anywhere in the world is eligible. Associate AIA members may submit in the Projects category only.

Built work must have been completed, and un-built projects must have been initiated after 1 January 2004.

Categories
The three categories for AIA New York Chapter Design Awards are Architecture, Interiors, and Projects.

Work submitted in the Interiors and Architecture categories must be completed. The Projects category recognizes un-built architecture and urban design as well as theoretical or conceptual work, including but not limited to landscape design, land art, research, architectural objects, and installations. Projects undertaken for academic credit are not eligible.

Entries of historic preservation work and projects emphasizing sustainable design are encouraged in all categories.

Registration and Submission Process
When registration and payment are complete, the entrant will receive an email with username, password and instructions to complete the submission process. (We will begin releasing these after December 01, 2008).

Entrants who prefer to pay by check may download the registration form at www.aiany.org/awards and send it in with applicable fees. Entrants must provide an email address in order to receive submission materials.

Each anonymous submission must fit within an 8½" × 11" soft cover binder supplied by the entrant. Submissions binders received after 6:00pm on the 20 February due date, those that include the name(s) of the entrant or design team, or those that otherwise do not meet the stated requirements will be disqualified without reconsideration.

Please note that submissions become the property of AIA New York.

Entry Fees
175 Dollars AIA Members
275 Dollars Other Registered Architects
75 Dollars Associate AIA members
50 Dollars Additional fee for late registration after the 6 February deadline

Entry fees are non-refundable.

The submission deadline, 20 February at 18:00, is for receipt of the binder at the Center for Architecture, not for the date of its postmark. AIA New York cannot be held responsible for delays in delivery.

Digital Images
In addition to drawings and photographs, images must be uploaded on the registration site, www.aiany.org/awards/. Images should be no larger than 800 × 800 pixels and should be labeled with a two digit number (e.g., 01.jpg, 02.jpg, etc.). Hard copy images in the submission should be labeled to correspond with uploaded images (e.g., Image 01, Image 02, etc.).

Credits
The architect or firm of record, associate architects, project team, consultants, client, and general contractor must be credited. Client names will be withheld from publication upon request. For restoration, renovation, and adaptive reuse of existing buildings, the original architect shall be identified.

Submissions of work done as an employee or consultant must include a release from a principal of the firm acknowledging that the submitting architect had primary design responsibility, and that the credits are correct.

Criteria
Each entry in the AIA New York Design Awards program is judged on the success with which it has met its individual requirements. Entries are weighed individually, not in competition with others. Criteria include quality of design; resolution of the program or idea; and innovation, thoughtfulness, and technique. All categories are open to both AIA New York members and nonmembers. Jury decisions will be based solely on the materials submitted. No field trips will be taken.

Publicity
AIA New York will publicly announce the winners of the Design Awards at the 23 February Jury Symposium. Building Type Award winners will be announced on 2 March. All winners will be recognized for their achievements at the Design Awards and Building Type Awards Luncheon on 22 April. The Awards Exhibition opens on 23 April at the Center for Architecture and will be on view through June 2009. Design Awards winners in Architecture, Interiors and Projects will also participate in three winners' symposia while the exhibition is on view. In addition, winning entries will be published in a special awards issue of Oculus and on the AIA New York website, www.aiany.org.

Exhibition
Award recipients shall be notified regarding exhibition materials following the jury in late February. The 2009 Design Awards and Building Type Awards Exhibition will open on 23 April and will remain on view through June 2009.
