LOCATION

The Institute of Mineralogy and Petrography of the University of Fribourg will organize the 6th European Meeting on Ancient Ceramics, EMAC ‘01 on the
3 th — 6 th October 2001.

The meeting will be held at the University of Fribourg, located inside the city. The participants will be accommodated in hotels in the city.

ACCESS
The nearest airports are Geneva and Zurich. From the airports direct trains connecting to Fribourg exist (Geneva 1h30 / Zurich 2h). In Fribourg, the railway station is in the centre of the town, near the University (10 min. walk).

SUBJECT OF THE MEETING
The scope of the meeting is the presentation and discussion of recent developments in ceramics studies. Special sessions will be devoted to the following topics:

Social interactions and constraints in the fields of production and consumption.

History of development of ceramic technology and driving forces for innovation.

Ceramic materials used in pyrotechno-logies (metallurgy, glass making etc.).

Scientific methods for the determination of the function of ceramics (residues analyses etc.).

Each session will include one invited review paper (30 min.), 4 to 6 oral presentations (15 min.) and posters.

ABSTRACTS
Authors are invited to submit abstracts on any of the above subjects. The abstract should be no more than one page long (300 words) clearly showing the title (in capitals), the name of the author(s) and the affiliation of the author(s). The text may be illustrated with line-drawing.

Both a hard copy and an electronic version (by e-mail or 3.5’’ floppy disk) of the abstract should be submitted. Submissions must be made using Microsoft Word.

The abstract will be reviewed by the international scientific committee and recommanded for an oral or a poster presentation. Poster sessions will be allocated at special times and will be displayed for most of the meeting. Please indicate your preference for an oral or a poster presentation.

The deadline for submission of the abstracts is May 1, 2001.

PUBLICATION
It is intended that the proceedings of the meeting will be published in a volume. Details will be announced later.

LANGUAGE
The official language of the meeting will be English.
