Historically, the construction industry has focussed on the capital cost of constructing the built environment. Now, clients, designers and contractors are increasingly concerned with whole life cost. This growing interest is driven by PPP and PFI projects, and by the emerging realisation that many of a facility's lifetime costs, including those connected with maintenance and refurbishment, can be determined at the initial design stage.
