Call for Entries The competition is a one stage architectural competition. The
site is at the junction of Holles Strand Fenian Street, adjacent to Merrion
Square. Under the "Affordable Housing Scheme"
(1999) Dublin Corporation can provide additional new
housing units on Corporation land, in or near centres where current
unit housing prices have created an affordable gap for medium to lower
income purchasers. Apartments will be sold by the local authority at an
estimated ‘cost price’ and, consequently, at a significant discount from
market value. "living in the
City" has become an attractive alternative to commuting from outer
suburbs and towns for young people. However, this increase in ‘apartment’
prices has limited this option in recent years. The purpose of this
competition is to provide such an option, in a sustainable development in
an inner city site. The competition pack including the
competition brief and regulations, a site map and a disc,
in autocad format, is available upon receipt of the registration
form and fee.
