The Kajima Sculpture Contest is being held for the seventh time
this year. This contest on the theme of "Sculpture, Architecture and
Space" investigates the creation of a new type of space in which the
interplay between sculpture and architecture gives birth to a greater
entity. Together with sculptors, Kajima Corporation would like to offer
cities and people spaces that are filled with the captivating energy and
feeling of liveliness that can only be created by sculpture.
We hope to receive many inspired entries this year as we have in
the past.

- The sponsors will provide the award money for prizewinning works as
mentioned above and a grant of ? 0.4 million for the production of each
full-scale work nominated for the second screening.
- Artists retain the right of ownership of their artwork.
- Some works will be selected only for model-awards in the first screening.

Entry Regulations

Entry Qualifications
There are no restrictions in terms of age or nationality.

Artworks
- For the first screening, artists must submit a model of their artwork
and a completed Entry Packet, including a text (maximum of 100 words)
outlining their aim behind the work.
- Those entrants whose work is selected in the preliminary screening
will be asked to create full-scale artwork for the second screening.
- There are no restrictions regarding motifs or materials.
- Only artworks that have not been made public may be entered in the contest.

Entries for the First Screening : Model
A. Regulations regarding Artworks

- Artists should submit a 1/3 scale model of the artwork. (For
information of full-scale artwork, see paragraph A on page 5.) Sketches
may be submitted if necessary.
- Works must be transported and installed for display. A work will not
be accepted if there is concern that it will be difficult or impossible
to display due to its structure or its use of special devices.
- A 100-word text describing the aim of the work should be included on
Form A of the Entry Packet.
- Entries are limited to one per artist.
- Unsanitary or unsafe objects will not be accepted.

B. Transport and Removal of Artwork Models
- Please complete both sides of Form A, B and C of the Entry Packet, and
send Form A and B to the Executive Committee Secretariat so that they
arrive by Friday, August 24, 2001. Please attach Form C to the model for
display. Late entries will not be accepted.
- Artwork models must be brought to the Kajima KI Building between 10:00
and 17:00 between Friday, August 31 and Sunday, September 2, 2001.
(Models transported by professional movers must also arrive on time.)
- The artist or his/her representative (professional movers) must
perform the unpacking and packing of the model. Models with no
representative to unpack will be unpacked by the professional movers
assigned by Kajima Corp.
- There is no charge to submit works. Artists must cover the costs of
transporting their models for the first screening.
- Works are to be removed from 10:00 to 17:00 on either Saturday,
September 8 or Sunday, September 9, 2001. The artist must bear the costs
of removing his/her model.

C. Screening
- The first screening winners and the model-award winners will be
informed of the results by Friday, September 7, 2001 and will be
requested to create full-scale works for the second screening. Other
artists will be informed of the screening results by postcard only (Form B).

Entries for the Second Screening : Full-Scale
A. Regulations regarding Artworks
- Full-scale artworks shall be within a 100 cm x 80 cm x 120 cm box
size and weigh 1.3 ton or less. Full-scale works must be created in
accordance with the model or sketches submitted for the first screening.
Works that do not abide by these regulations will not be accepted.
- A text of approximately 400 words explaining the work and a
head-and-shoulders photograph (preferably a negative) of the artist must
be attached. These materials will be used for the contest catalog.

B. Grants for Production
- Artists whose work is selected for the second screening will be
provided a grant of ? 0.4 million to produce a full-scale version of the
sculpture. If submission of the full-scale artwork is not possible for
any reason for which the artist is responsible or if the full-scale
piece created is markedly different from the model or sketches submitted
for the first screening, the artist must return the grant.

C. Bringing in and Removal of Artworks
- Works must be brought to the Kajima KI Building between 10:00 and
17:00 on either Saturday, February 16 or Sunday, February 17, 2002.
(Works delivered by professional movers must arrive during this period
as well.)
- The artist must cover the expenses for packing and shipping the
artwork for the final screening. The artist is responsible for packing,
unpacking, and installing the artwork. The artist may either pack/unpack
and install the artwork himself/herself or instruct the contest staff.
- Artist should confer with the Executive Committee one month prior to
shipment regarding the details concerning the installation of the
artwork, including pedestal and lighting.
- Artists must cover the costs of removing their work after the
exhibition. Works must be removed between 10:00 and 17:00 on Saturday,
March 16 or Sunday, March 17, 2002. Works that are not removed during
this period will be shipped p.o.d. to the artist unless the artist has
provided instructions for the work to be discarded or handled in some
other way. The sponsors are not responsible for any damage to the
artwork incurred during this process.

D. Exhibition of Artworks
- All works selected for the second screening and model-awarded works
will be displayed in the atrium of the Kajima KI Building (See photograph).
- The exhibition will be held from Saturday, March 2 through Friday,
March 15, 2002 and will be open to the public. The artworks winning the
awards (not including the model-awards) will be displayed in the atrium
until the next contest.

E. Results of Screening
- The artists of prizewinning works will be notified of the results of
the screening directly.

Copyrights
The artists possess the rights of ownership and copyrights for their
individual works. The copyright holders are to permit the sponsors the
right to print materials related to their artwork in publications issued
by the sponsors to publicize or advertise the contest.

Compensation for Damages
The sponsors are not responsible for storing exhibited artworks. The
sponsors are also not responsible for damage incurred due to defects in
the materials used in the production of the artworks or structural
defects as well as damage from other force majeure.
