01- the subject of the competition is:

02- design brief:
you can combine any forms and materials as long as the
- chair / easychair / armchair / sofa / stool or bench… -
allows us to shift position in a gentle, soothing motion.

a focus of the judging will be on how the participant translates one or more
of the following:
+ concept (design as a form of communication, cultural critique…)
+ design (highly refined elegance, added comfort…)
+ innovation (new or unusual materials, manufacturing processes…)

please note:
this is a conceptual product design competition;
anybody may participate.
entries can not currently be in production.

03- awards and prize:
1 excellent design will receive a prize of 2500 euro;
20 finalists will be awarded honourable mentions.
a cd-rom will be produced for print and screen-based presentation.
all finalists will receive copies for their own use.

05- announcement of the results:
designboom and sotheby’s italy will host an exhibition
of the winning entries to be displayed in milan
during the 2002 international design week (april 10-15, 2002).
the exhibition will showcase the top twenty finalists and the
history of rocking chairs.
the award presentation will take place on friday april 12, 2002.
winning designs will also be published on DESIGNBOOM. COM

08- entries:
the work
should be prepared in a high resolution (300/400dpi),
but as final files are usually too big to send via e-mail,
you are asked to forward a lower resolution copy
- only gif and jpeg file formats will be accepted, 1 MB max.
(in the event of a winning design:
we will request your high-resolution images to include them
in our milan exhibition and press kit).
