OBJECT OF THE COMPETITION
The A.T.E.R. - PISTOIA (Azienda Territoriale Edilizia Residenziale) promotes
a relationship of cooperation with the Italian and Foreign Universities,
considering young people's contribution more innovative.The competition intends
to compare the planning quality produced by didactics of University with the
concrete basic themes of current architectonic debate. The basic themes that
have enriched the most important aspects of research and experiment in the
relationship between technology and project of residence are: relationship
between technic and architectonic language, technological innovation, open and
flexible plans, technologies with different complexity but reciprocally
integrable. The candidate should work out a proposal of a project about a
"model" of "social" house for the third millennium. Moreover
the candidate should give his contribution in order to create a concrete culture
of the project, faced from Architectonic scale to Design scale, considering the
technological and social tendency, that the new contemporary society imposes.
All the candidates have a freedom of location and can partecipate with
the works of University' course.They must also imagine architectures spaces and
objects completely different of surroundings and furnishing, that often
disappoint, and they should stir up their imagination around a particular theme,
that is currently in progress.
CONDITIONS OF PATECIPATIONS (ELIGIBILITY)
The students of European and Extraeuropean schools of Architecture, Design
and Engineering, the architects who took their degree after 01.08.2000 can
partecipate in this competitive examination, provided that they didn't enter a
professional orders, dated 31.07.2001.
Competition entries may be the works of an individual student or of a team,
on condition that all members are in the position explained before, and that one
of those is the leader. To all members will be recognized the paternity of the
ideas in their competition submissions
COMPETITION SUBMISSION
1. Two projects drawings, black and white or in colour, firmly mounted or
drawn directly on no more than A1 size (59,4 for base*84 cm, or equivalent
English size) illustration or foamcore light and rigid boards; no graphic scale
is specified; the subject is left to competitors' personal discretion according
to the submissions required.
A sheet of paper, 5 cm high, should be firmly affixed above each board and
subdivided in this way: on the left side, in a space of 5
* 5cm, the University Logo; on the centre, the title " COMPETITION of IDEAS
- LA FELICITA' DELL'ABITARE (THE HAPPINESS TO DWELL)"; on the right there
will be a little space (15 * 5 cm) with the entrants' names
2. Copies of the two previous boards reduced in A3 size
3. A book (a brief essay - size A4) with max 10 pages: it must
contain a report about the different standards, that the candidates used in
their projects, essay describing the most important concepts/features of their
project. It may be completed including preparatory sketches that will help to
communicate the nature of their solution.
4. Max 10 slides about project drawings and, in case, of the
plastic model (zenithal and lateral views).
5. A CD-ROM: it must contain the file of the project drawings
(size JPEG ) and the illustrative report (size Word or Simple Text).
N.B. For the extraeuropean (non-European) candidates: the boards, that is
described in point 1 must be sent only on CD-ROM to facilitate the
participation.
Entries cannot be returned.
CALENDAR - SCHEDULE AND SHIPPING
The registration is free and it will be automatically accepted on delivery.
The entries will be delivered or shipped in boxes or sturdy wrapping to ATER
PISTOIA before 03.08.2001 (for the entries shipped, it will be relied on
postmark, however such entries could not be accepted after 03.09.2001 ). The
title "Concorso di idee LA FELICITA' DELL'ABITARE " should be clearly
affixed on the boxes. Inside entry boxes, there will be even an envelope with
name and personal particulars of the competitors and a copy of their actual
matriculation.
JURY
The jury, who will judge the entries at the end of the prizegiving, will be
composed of:

n. 3 Members of the Universities
At the end of the works, the jury will make out a list with the first and
the others notified and selected. Official results will be announced during the
opening of the projects' exhibition.
RESULT
ATER - PISTOIA will publish competitors' entries (elaborations) with
exhibitions, catalogue, or other promotion forms.
the ATER - PISTOIA reserves the faculty to invite the competitors who made
the best projects to a paid stage, for a period of 3 months, that will have as
subject a real project about the territory of Pistoia district.
STANDARDS OF EVALUATION
The selection and evaluation of projects consider of account their
originality, their innovation, their functional characteristics and their
architectonic qualities, but they consider also the power of the projects to
expound some challenges and problems of modern society, in relation to the
competition's theme. |
