Design Presentation
Design work (HTML file) and a summary (consisting of one image and text)
must be submitted by each applicant.
Design work:
The design work must be in HTML format that can be viewed by a Web
browser (Netscape 4.5 or higher, Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher). Flash, Shockwave and Quick Time may be used as plug-ins. The non-compressed data file must not exceed 1MB. Links to outside Websites are
prohibited.
Summary:
Applicants are requested to submit a summary consisting one image and
text (description) to facilitate the understanding of their work. The image must be 200 x 200 pixels or smaller and compressed in a JPEG file not exceeding 40KB. The description must not exceed 400 words in English or 800 characters in Japanese.

Application Method
Applications will be accepted only on the Internet Website of Taiyo Kogyo Corporation. From the application page, fill in the required information, and send your design and Summary as instructed. Applications will not be accepted in any other way. Floppy discs mailed or directly delivered, or data sent by e-mail from sites other than the specified Website application page, will not be accepted. More details (file and folder formats, compression method, etc.) will be
uploaded later in this Website.

Design Submission
Opens on Sunday, July 1, and closes on Monday, August 20, 2001 (Tokyo time)

Preview
All entries will be posted on Taiyo Kogyo's Website for an open preview (early September, 2001).

Preliminary Screening
During the preliminary screening, the jury panel will select seven entries from among the designs submitted. Screening results will be announced on Taiyo Kogyo's Website and the applicants will be notified (around September 20, 2001).

Final Selection
Saturday October 13, 2001 at Hall D, Tokyo International Forum * The
seven designs selected in the preliminary screening will be evaluated for the final selection. For this, the seven selected applicants must submit designs that have been further refined, and present them in person to the panel of judges. Based on this presentation, the panel will select the winners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
* No particular format is required for entries in the final selection. It will be left up to the applicants. We encourage them to actively take up the challenges
provided by the many possibilities in this year's digital presentation theme. However, it will be necessary to consult with the contest sponsor in advance regarding the presentation format, as it may not be possible to accommodate certain types of presentations.

* Those selected in the preliminary examination must submit their design
works no later than Friday October 5, 2001. Presentations at the final selection must be made using the computers provided by the sponsor. 

* Individuals or groups selected as finalists in the preliminary examination but who cannot submit reworked designs will be removed from the list of finalists.

* Finalists will be provided with actual transportation costs (for one person in the case of a group residing in Japan but living far from the final contest site). Overseas applicants coming to Japan for the final selection will receive 150,000 each (to cover transportation and hotel), in addition to the prize money, at the final selection.

* The sponsor will not act as guarantor nor handle any immigration procedures for overseas applicants entering Japan. Those visiting Japan for the contest are
requested to see to all necessary procedures for entering Japan on their own.

Announcement of Winners
The winners will be announced in the December 2001 issue of the monthly "Shinkenchiku" magazine and on Taiyo Kogyo's Website.

Rights
* All rights to design works will remain with the applicants. Thus, applicants are responsible for taking all measures that may be required to protect industrial property rights, if necessary.
* For the 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-prize winners, and those with awards of
excellence and honorable mentions, the sponsor reserves the first right to the
exclusive use of the designs in actual construction projects.
* Copyrights on submitted design works will remain with the applicants.
However, for the 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-prize winners, and those with awards of excellence and honorable mentions, the sponsor reserves the rights for printing, advertising, publication, exhibition, etc.

Others
* Only design works that have not been previously published or announced
in any media or location whatsoever shall be submitted.
* Questions concerning the theme shall not be answered by the sponsoring
organization. There is no restriction on design ideas except those outline for the regulations and requirements concerning the application and form of design work submission.
* All entries will be posted on Taiyo Kogyo's Website for an open preview.
* Applicants whose design works are selected for prizes will be notified
of the results after the panel's examination.
* Submitted design works will not be returned, so copies should be kept
by the applicants, if necessary.
* Design works to which any or all of the following conditions apply will be excluded from the judging, or will be prohibited from prize-winning eligibility even after the results are announced.
1. Designs that clearly violate the copyrights, industrial property
rights or various rights of others.
2. Designs that have already been published or announced elsewhere.
