The Hesse Chamber of Architects announces the ACS Award 2001, the 13th in a series of competitions on the occasion of the tradeshow ACS – Computer Systems in the AEC Industry. For the first time, though, the award is open worldwide. Another innovation is the transformation of the ACS Award 2001 into a design game of experimental character. The subject of the ACS Award 2001 is: ‚remote collaboration‘ – cooperation over long distances. The aim of the game is to solve a design task in a small team. Competitions in general and handling new media in particular are supposed to be fun – that was the underlying principle in developing the game.

The central focus of the competition is cooperation between randomly assembled teams over long distances with the help of modern information and communications technologies (remote collaboration). Each team consists of two to three participants (individuals or practices). The two members of each basic team will be drawn at random, and this team may then (but is not obliged to) look for a further member or consultant. In a project diary, the relevant remote collaboration techniques employed with special emphasis on electronic communications shall be documented.

The prize will go to the team with the best strategy for implementing new computer systems, whose design displays the highest degree of creativity and the best team spirit.

Eligible are architects of all disciplines, civil engineers, engineers in the fields of planning loadbearing structures and building equipment technologies, computer scientists, IT specialists, designers and media systems designers, as well as students and graduates of the aforesaid disciplines.

The first prize is endowed with DM 12,000 the second prize with DM 8,000 and the third prize with DM 5,000. The awarding ceremony will be part of the official opening reception of the coming ACS 2001 running from 7th to 9th of November 2001 in hall no. 9 on Frankfurt exhibition grounds.
