Yarışma Özeti(Summary):
The Chilean Government through the Ministry for Housing and Urban Development
sponsored by the Architects’ Association, has summoned a public competition
for ideas on urban design for the Bicentenary Gateway Project on state-owned
land covering approximately 245 hectares currently occupied by the airport of
Los Cerrillos in the city of Santiago, Chile. This initiative is part of the
emblematic projects fostered by the State to celebrate the bicentenary of the
Independence of Chile that will be held in the year 2010.

Development of the city of Buenos Aires and joint author of the Management Plan
for Puerto Madero and the Northern Bank of Concepción.
· One representative from the Architects’ Association of Chile.

1.- SUMMARY

land covering approximately 245 hectares currently occupied by the airport of
Los Cerrillos in the city of Santiago, Chile. This initiative is part of the
emblematic projects fostered by the State to celebrate the bicentenary of the
Independence of Chile that will be held in the year 2010.
Both Chilean and foreign architects are invited to take part, except those who
are forbidden to do so in accordance with point n°13 of the administrative
conditions.
2.- AWARDS
First prize 20,000,000 pesos
Second prize 10,000,000 pesos
Third prize 5,000,000 pesos
Three honorable mentions 2,000,000 pesos each
3.- CONDITIONS
The conditions may be acquired in the Architects’ Association located on Av.
Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins n° 115 Santiago, Chilebetween August 1 and 31
2001. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development’s website may also be
visited on the Internet (www.minvu.cl) as well as the one belonging to the
Architects’ Association (www.coarq.com). Only those who have purchased the
conditions will be allowed to take part. This may be done in the Architects’
Association headquarters in Santiago or on the Internet.
Those architects withdrawing conditions shall leave a record of their name,
postal and e-mail addresses and phone numbers in the register which will be kept
for this purpose. The conditions will cost 35,000 pesos including tax.
4.- TIMETABLE
1.- Date of Sale for Competition Conditions: August 1 to 31.
2.- 1st Submission of questions by Applicants: August 1 to 14.
3.- 1st Questions Answered: August 22.
4.- 2nd Submission of questions by Applicants: August 23 to 30.
5.- 2nd Questions Answered: September 6.
6.- Submission Deadline October 8 at noon
7.- Jury established: October 10 to 24.
8.- Notification of Results: before November 7.
5. SUBMISSION REGULATIONS
All drawings will submitted on 60 x 90 cm sheets, horizontal on white paper.
Presentation
techniques are up to applicants and so the use of color is permitted on all of
the sheets.
The drawings will be submitted mounted on a rigid base of expanded polyethylene.
The official language of the competition is Spanish; the currency is the Chilean
peso and all
measurements must be metric.

6.3.- Optimizing connectivity with the rest of the city
6.4.- Functional diversity
6.5.- Public management using private investment
6.6.- Scheduled in stages and development flexible
7. BASIC PROGRAM
7.1.- 15,000 homes
7.2.- Health, education and sporting facilities.
7.3.- Public spaces and green areas
7.4.- Presidential Palace
7.5.- Civic Center of Cerrillos
7.6.- Aeronautic Museum
7.7.- Other uses : Activities that generate employment within the same area
like, for example, industrial activities on a medium non-contaminating scale
including equipment.
8. DATE AND PLACE OF SUBMISSION
All proposals will be handed in on Monday, October 8 at noon in the headquarters
of the Architects’ Association located on Av. Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins
n° 115 in Santiago, Chile.
