Welcome to Glasshouse, the European design competition organised by Pilkington - Europe's leading glass manufacturer - in association with Architecture Today magazine of London.

The object of the competition is to design a house for the 21st century that demonstrates and exploits the architectural potential of glass. Entry is open to all architecture students and young architects across Europe until 31st May 2002. See brief for the full story.

Glasshouse is an incredible opportunity to realise your vision, creativity and talent. The competition is being promoted through the architectural press and universities across Europe, and will be judged by a distinguished panel of architects.

Prizes total 35,000 Euros, comprising
- For each of the 9 regional categories, a first prize of 2,000 Euros, a second prize of 750 Euros and a third prize of 250 Euros
- For the overall winner, a further 8,000 euros to add to their regional winners prize, giving a total of 10,000 euros

Glasshouse entries will be judged by five leading architects: Pekka Helin, Sergey Kisselev, Ian Ritchie, Matthias Sauerbruch, Elías Torres and Mark Swenarton, who is publishing editor of Architecture Today and a technical representative of Pilkington.

In all cases prizes will be allocated according to the judges' discretion. In addition special commendations may be made by the judges if considered appropriate. Awards will be presented at Glasstec 2002 in Dusseldorf. The winning entries will be published in Architecture Today and Europe's other leading Architectural magazines.
