Il Salone dell'Arredobagno/The Bathroom Fittings Show and Designboom unveil their international on-line competition "Inside the bathroom", aimed at designers and architects from all over the world.

The bathroom world has been going through a transformation in recent years. Materials have changed, as have the various factors and trends influencing purchases, even purchasers' wishes have changed. Bathrooms are increasingly being seen as places to be shown off, where design and innovative ideas play a  determining role. This trend will provide ample opportunity for assessment and consideration at the Il Salone dell'Arredobagno/Bathroom Fittings Show set up by Fiera Milano International, which is to be held at Fiera Milano from 2 to 6 March 2004, as part of the 34th edition of Mostra Convegno Expocomfort.

As an impetus for new ideas and solutions, the Bathroom Fittings Show and the independent "e-zine", Designboom.com, are launching an international on-line competition "Inside the bathroom". The initiative targets young designers and architects from all over the world and aims to collect ideas and designs to give new shape and form to the new bathroom concept. Designs for submission should be based on three main themes: Whirlpool baths and multifunction showers; Taps and fittings; Sanitaryware.

Designs will be adjudicated by a jury made up of Elio Fiorucci, Oliviero Toscani, Luca Trazzi, Birgit Lohmann, Carlo Bassi, Giovanna Talocci and Ugo Volli. The entries will be assessed for technological and design features with special focus on the functional aspects of traditional bathroom.

The jury will select four of the designs sent in which will be awarded cash prizes. The choice project will be awarded a prize of 5,000 Euros, whilst the other 3 finalists will receive honourable mentions and 1,000 Euros. All works submitted will be used to create a gallery of suggestions and solutions that designboom.com will host in its on-line magazine www.designboom.com  as well as an Exhibition to be housed within the Bathroom Fittings Show. The competition is an opportunity for companies operating in the sector to select designs and ideas of a viable and innovative nature that could make them suitable for product development.

designboom and ' WC water concept' salone dell’arredo bagno international on-line design competition (participation is open to applicants from every country in the world, to both professionals and students, free registration required.)

The subject of the competition is 'inside the bathroom'

three themes for a new water concept:
participants are requested to develop one of these three concepts:
a - whirlpool or multifunction-shower
b - faucets
c - complete bathroom furnishing series ( toilet, bidet, sink...
winning entries and a selection of the works sent in will be on show during the next ' WC water concept' salone dell'arredo bagno / bath furnishing salon - fiera milano international in milan, italy, march 2 - 6, 2004.

Design criteria
the jury will award designs which are innovative in terms of their formal / technological aspects as well as their functional ones, linked to the different traditions of bathroom use. the most interesting designs will be presented to companies in the sector for possible production.

Registration deadline
application registration will be accepted through september 30, 2003 (there is a maximum enrollment, registration may close prior to that deadline)

Entries
entries will be accepted from individuals or teams (max. 2 works). The design documents are to consist of the following two elements:

1) works
(works should be prepared in a high resolution - 300dpi -, 3000x3000 pixels in the event of a winning design: we will request your high-resolution images.)
as final files are usually too big to send via e-mail,
you are asked to forward a lower resolution copy :
only gif and jpeg file formats will be accepted, 1Mb max.

each work should be forwarded in a separate e-mail.
your works should include your entry number and the title of work.

we will send you an e-mail receipt of your work as soon as we receive it.

2) authorship and explanation of ideas
a brief description of your work within 100 words as email text
(english text only, explanation is expected to be concise)
and a declaration of authorship.

the design is my own creation and has been developed in
conformity with the competition’s guideline.

(competition’s guideline: projects participating to the competition, must be original works. projects must be free from copyrights and any kind of obligation. the design shall not in any way infringe any third party’s right, including but not limited to copyright, logos, trademark, trade names, or other proprietary rights of publicity or privacy. only entries with a declaration of authorship are accepted!)

any moral and paternity right regarding the project sent in for application is designer’s property. however, ' WC water concept' salone dell’arredo bagno and designboom own the right of exhibition and publication of all the works sent in.
