Yarışma Özeti(Summary):
Since Antiquity, the use of natural light has played an
important role in building construction. Indeed, in Le Corbusier's definition:
"Architecture is the masterly, correct and magnificent play of masses
brought together in light". Only in more recent times, however, have people
come to explore the full design potential offered by artificial lighting. The
brief of the 2003 Architektur-Internet-Preis sets natural and artificial
lighting in a reciprocal relationship to one another.

Since Antiquity, the use of natural light has played an important role in
building construction. Indeed, in Le Corbusier's definition: "Architecture
is the masterly, correct and magnificent play of masses brought together in
light". Only in more recent times, however, have people come to explore the
full design potential offered by artificial lighting. The brief of the 2003
Architektur-Internet-Preis sets natural and artificial lighting in a reciprocal
relationship to one another.
Twelve buildings will be presented that have one feature in common: they have
been designed with the purpose of staging natural lighting in a very impressive
manner. The competition brief calls on participants to select one building from
the list and modify it by means of "reverse light planning". The
building is to be staged in light so that the influences of existing (day) light
paths and the resulting shadows are intensified, reversed or made to overlap.
Competition participants are expected to submit a convincing presentation of
their light concept as a dynamic process, which could include, for example,
movement through space, temporal processes, or a combination of both
principles...
