4 - 6 Eylül 2002, School
of Design and Environment National University of Singapore - Singapore
|
mAAN was established as a
loosely knitted network of architectural researchers and specialists committed
to study, preserve, and rehabilitate the modern architecture, townscape, and
civil-engineering heritages in Asia. The formation workshop was held in
Guangzhou, People's Republic of China from 21 to 22 July 2000.
mAAN's organisational structure, agenda, and action plan have been officially
adopted at the 1st
International founding conference held in Macau from July 22 to July 25
2001.
The 2nd mAAN conference aims to provide a venue for architectural historians,
researchers and preservationists in Asia to communicate with one another,
because of the shared history of the region. The conference will be conducted in
two main sessions: "theory" and "practice". In the theory
sessions, academic or theoretical discourses on modernity and technology in Asia
will be discussed. In the working sessions, the praxis through inventory,
publicity, and real projects will be conferred. From this conference a greater
awareness of the importance of researching, theorising, preserving, revitalising
Asian Modern architecture heritage could be propagated.
