Technical Innovation In Design And Construction
29 Ocak 2003, BIAT, British Museum, London

BIAT’s prestigious conference for members and associated professionals in the construction industry. It will be a great opportunity to meet and discuss how computer technology is benefiting the industry, including CAD techniques, project extranets, and building refurbishment for IT systems. It will be held under the Great Court at the British Museum, and will be kindly supported by Construction Industry Council.

This one day conference will be based in the prestigious Clore Education Centre at the heart of the spectacular Queen Elizabeth II Great Court within The British Museum. Facilities include full audio-visual equipment (including projection from digital sources) and a complementary product exhibition.

By assembling forward thinking professionals within (and without) the construction industry, this conference will facilitate discussion on and raise awareness of technological innovations in design and construction. Particular emphasis will be placed upon the following themes:
Technological innovation as an aid to the architectural design and construction management phases

This session will examine technological and innovative advances which have aided both the design and construction management phases of the construction process. This could include examination of 3D CAD and parametric software as design tools as well as the use of virtual and augmented reality in architectural design. Speakers will concentrate upon the development of new techniques with examples taken from technologically innovative projects.

This session will also look at the increasing use of project extranets and off site monitoring and give examples of how such techniques have benefited the project.
Post construction technological innovation and the needs of the user
This session will concentrate upon the post construction aspect of technological innovation, paying particular attention to the changing demands and expectations of the users. The topics will range from retro fitting new technology and the potential conflict between user needs, conservation and heritage to more anticipatory needs such as artificial intelligence, ubiquitous and pervasive technology. Speakers will again supply examples and it is expected that this will be a suitably speculative and thought provoking end to the day.

It is anticipated that the event will attract around 120 delegates from the UK and overseas and potential delegates will include construction professionals who wish to become more familiar with the challenges that meet them today or engage in a discussion about how they can prepare themselves for tomorrow.
