Taiwan's industries participated in the development of the PC and became
important contributors to PC technology and manufacturing. With the advent of
the Internet, 3C integration and the digital era, Taiwan's industries are
changing their roles from simply engaging in manufacturing to demonstrating
concern for human beings, striving to build a new environment in which global
consumers may enjoy the benefits of digital technology. The development of the
Internet, digital transmission technology and the liberalization of
telecommunications brought about 3C convergence in communications, information
and consumer electronics. This convergence has resulted in indeterminate, fuzzy
boundaries between different applications, even different functions.
Digital technology however will rapidly prevail. Soon everyone will be
required to confront the digital society, although not everyone will be able to
embrace it completely. That is why it is crucial to be able to predict future
trends and developments based on social realities, human psychology and
environmental factors, and to integrate these with technology in order to
produce ergonomic products and interfaces. This will be the key to the success
of digital products. We would like to extend our sincere invitation to designers
to share their visions for the future, in order to draft a blue print for
tomorrow's society.
Theme:
"Creating a Digital Culture"
Following the development of key IT technology and the trend toward smart home
appliances, we chose "Creating a Digital Culture" as the theme of this
contest to encourage designers to incorporate creativity, human considerations
and practical necessity into the design process. The goal is to create an
intelligent, tasteful life style in the post-PC era based on human factors,
using digital technology to explore the connections among people, products and
the environment.
