The Working Group for Textile Architecture and Techtextil - International Trade
Fair for Technical Textiles and Nonwovens - are holding the 7th Competition on
the subject of: 'Textile Structures for New Building'.
The competition aims to promote innovative ideas and problem solutions in
relation to building with textiles or reinforced materials, which have concrete
prospects of being realised. The competition also aims to promote the prize
winning students and young professionals. Furthermore, it is hoped that the
competition will intensify contacts between the young generation, the
universities, industry and broad areas of the building industry.

Juri (Jury):
The members of the 'Textile Structures for New Building' jury will
include renowned academics and a number of German and foreign architects and
engineers well known in the field of textile construction.
Michael Jänecke, General Secretary of the Working Group for Textile
Architecture, will participate on behalf of the organisers. The Chairman of the
jury is Prof. Werner Sobek.

The Working Group for Textile Architecture and Techtextil - International
Trade Fair for Technical Textiles and Nonwovens - are holding the 7th
Competition on the subject of: 'Textile Structures for New Building'.
The competition aims to promote innovative ideas and problem solutions in
relation to building with textiles or reinforced materials, which have concrete
prospects of being realised. The competition also aims to promote the prize
winning students and young professionals. Furthermore, it is hoped that the
competition will intensify contacts between the young generation, the
universities, industry and broad areas of the building industry.
The scientific supervision is the responsibility of Prof. Werner Sobek,
University of Stuttgart, Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptional
Design (Institut für Leichtbau Entwerfen und Konstruieren - ILEK).
· Tasks
The competition covers all fields of textile building:
- earthworks, traffic-route construction, landscape engineering, constructions
for environmental protection
- civil engineering and industrial constructions,
- building - from building with textile-reinforced concrete or
textile-reinforced plastics to building with membranes for permanent and
temporary, variable and mobile constructions
- interior fitting - including developments such as the use of polymer optical
waveguides for light transmission, textile air-duct systems for draught-free
air-conditioning of rooms, mobile sound-insulation walls in production halls,
etc.
- product design for architecture.

The subject of 'Reusability and recyclability' has also been included as a main
theme.
There are no restrictions on the project subject chosen. Both supervised and
unsupervised work will be accepted.
Prizes
The Working Group for Textile Architecture has donated prizes worth DM 16,000
for the competition.
The prize money will be awarded for the following categories:
1. Macro architecture
2. Micro architecture
3. Environment and ecology
4. Composite and hybrid structures
The prize money will be allocated as follows
1st prize € 1,250.00 per category
2nd prize € 500.00 per category
3rd prize € 250.00 per category.
The prizes will be presented within the framework of a ceremony at Techtextil
in Frankfurt on 7 April 2003. Additionally, prize-winning projects will be
exhibited in a special show at Techtextil from 8 to 10 April 2003. The
organisers reserve the right to exhibit the projects at other Techtextil events
and to inform the specialist world and the public about the prize-winning
projects. A certificate will confirm the prizes.
Jury
The members of the 'Textile Structures for New Building' jury will include
renowned academics and a number of German and foreign architects and engineers
well known in the field of textile construction.
Michael Jänecke, General Secretary of the Working Group for Textile
Architecture, will participate on behalf of the organisers. The Chairman of the
jury is Prof. Werner Sobek.
The jury's decision is final and incontestable.
· Submission of competition projects
Entries for the competition should be submitted to:

Entries may be submitted personally between 27 and 31 January 2003! Please make
an appointment by e-mail: [email protected]
Composition of the work:
Plans, photographs or models may be submitted. The work should be organised in a
manner suitable for exhibition and must meet the following criteria:
1. Plans: max. 2 plans in A0 or 4 plans in A1 (matt surface, no transparent
paper)
2. Photographs: max 12, format min. 18 x 24, matt surface
3. Models: surface area max. 70 x 70 cm, 1 item in a solid transport box
4. Descriptions: 1 page, A4, integrated into the work
5. CD-ROM Please submit CD-ROMs in conjunction with written or pictorial
material only. They should only be included if they help illustrate the core
idea of the work.
6. Identification: All works submitted must bear the name, address, telephone
number and, if applicable, fax number / e-mail address of the entrant in the
bottom righthand corner. The registration number issued on initial registration
must be shown clearly on the top right or left corner of your work!

Transport and return:
Delivery, storage and return of models are at the entrant's risk. Return is only
possible if suitable packaging material is supplied. Packaging materials
intended for reuse should be marked on the inside with the name and address of
the entrant. The shipping and packaging costs for returning the works must be
enclosed with the works. Those works that have to be collected personally will
be kept until no later than 30 April 2003. The collection times will be
announced in good time. After this time, we reserve the right to dispose of the
works in an environmentally compatible way.
