SOM has provided comprehensive design services for
PhilAm Life Insurance Group Headquarters. While a subsidiary of AIG
International, the PhilAm Life tower located prominently on the Ayala Triangle
in Makati, Manila is designed as a built-to-suit building for the insurance
company. The tower was designed with sufficient flexibility to accommodate other
tenants. Taking advantage of the sites peculiar zoning, the building is composed
of a base, a mid-rise office block and a vertically emphasized tower slab.
The major pedestrian entrance to the office building and the entrances to the
banking halls are located Paseo de Roxas and an on-site vehicular drop-off is
located in a small secure garden at the rear of the site. Two major banking
halls are planned for the ground level and mezzanine with the possibility for an
office wide amenity area with landscaped gardens on the 7th floor. At the base
of the building a five-story parking podium continues the street wall of Paseo
de Roxas. The 1,000,000 sf building has typical office floor plates of 22,800 sf
and lease spans of 45 ft. As the tower emerges above the mid-rise block, the
area of the typical floor plate is 8,800 sf, providing the opportunity for
smaller premium floors. A private club facility is planned for the 28th and 29th
floors, taking advantage of the opportunity for landscaped areas on the roof of
the mid-rise block.
